This collaboration between Esther Dischereit and Holly Handman-Lopez is based on Dischereit’s work, an installation of 55 sound marks in the German city of Duelmen »Eichengruen- Platz« and her book »Vor den Hohen Feiertagen gab es ein Flüstern und Rascheln im Haus» Before the High Holy Days the House was Full of Whisperings and Rustlings«. _ The installation and the writings in the book honor the former Jewish inhabitants of the city of Duelman. With this new piece we take bits and pieces of stories, recipes, letters, and memories and forge a dance/theater work that celebrates the lives and culture that existed in the town of Dülmen before the Second World War. _ To contemplate in passing or to eat an icecream. This work categorically refuses to be a reconstruction of memory. The past remains the past, nothing more than an arbitrary flash into the every day-life, an intervention: curious perhaps, like the Jewish recipes recited by an American speaker. Whoever wishes to, can hear. _ Holly Handman’s choreography follows this reduction hermetically and radically.
